We hired a convertable beetle for the day, it was old and very noisy but lots of fun, not sure if it would pass it´s MOT in the UK. Actually we are sure - it definately wouldn´t.
Liz holding on tightly to the steering wheel in case it fell off.
The long but not so winding road. Once you leave the tourist zone by the docks the island is very beautiful and quite empty. We drove along the coast of the island (about 40km), stopping off to explore.
Adam was pleased that he never got his driving licence, the whole experience was a lot more fun from the passenger side.
There were lots of interesting plants along the coast, despite being quite arid. Most had very thick succulent leaves to cope with the dry conditions and the salt water in the air.
The inner part of the island was completely uninhabitated swamp land. It looked a fascinating place to explore. Maybe another time...
Liz on a deserted beach. Unfortunately the sea was too rough to go in, but enjoying it all the same.
Adam in his element, camera in hand and no other people for miles around. Apart from a patient girlfriend.
Liz´s patience only lasted so long!
Large portions of the coast line were made up of fossillised coral reef. This meant that there were many holes and tunnels through the rock. In this particular place a gap through the rocks meant that the large waves could wash under but there was only a small blow hole for the water to escape. This created a large and noisy jet of water every time a wave crashed in. Very impressive.
Wow those photos are impressive! It looks absolutely gorgeous and the bug rocks...however am a little disappointed at the spelling mistakes "definately?!" really tsk tsk. Great talking to you two- are these the kind of comments you meant Louli?

You guys are really packing it all in, your going to need a break to recover soon. Also Kate above complained about spelling, but had an a in "ment" (though I'm probably the wrong person to talk about spelling). I'm off to Oxford. Write soon. Owain xxx
ReplyDeleteIt looks too nice out there!
ReplyDeleteWe've just had about a week of below freezing temps but Barnaby started first time yesterday.
The bug looked basic, battered but great fun.
Take care.
