DAY 3 OF THE AMAZON BOAT TRIP (19/04/09)

Every morning we drank a sweet (no choice) coffee and ate crackers whilst watching the sunrise.

We began to leave the flood plains behind and were seeing denser and denser jungle beside the river.

Despite being over two days away from a town there was still frequent groups of buildings along the banks.

This football pitch had turned into a swimming pool for the local children.

There were lots of different kinds of houses which we both found fascinating.

Sunsets on the Amazon seem to be incredibly diverse - we didn´t see any two that were even vaguely similar.

Even the same night the sky can look totally different. This was probably our favourite sunset.

On first looking at this picture it would appear to be just a photo of a gloomy day. However what makes it interesting is that is was actually pitch black, lit by a bolt of lightning.

Before the torrential rain of this storm came in we stood on the top deck and watched the lightning. This sheet lightning lit up the whole sky.
