Day 314- Flores, Indonesia

LABUAN BAJO MIRROR CAVES (11/11/09)

Before leaving the Komodo area we had a small amount of time and visited a small cave system near Labuan Bajo on Flores Island. The caves are called the Mirror caves since they are relatively shallow and in the wet season rays of sunlight reflect off water that has collected inside (it was dry on our visit). Liz was not sure whether she was entirely happy about being in these small, cramped caves with our distinctly amateur guide.

Much to Adam's excitement we came across this huge Whip Scorpion. This arachnid is neither a spider nor a scorpion and, despite it's fearsome appearance, is completely harmless to humans.

We also shared the cave with a number of bats- and their strongly smelling, ammoniacal guano.

At the airport waiting to go back to Bali. Typically, since it didn't really matter if we were delayed, we weren't.

As we took off we viewed the Islands from a beautiful new perspective.
