AUCKLAND (28/07/09 - 30/07/09)
After 13 hours on a plane we arrived in Auckland very early in the morning. Seven months in Latin America has made us both very appreciative of the luxuries of a western city. Having spent most of our arrival day excitedly running around a proper supermarket we then decided to do some sightseeing. We started by climbing Auckland's famous 328m (1076ft) sky tower to get some fantastic views of the city.

After a nice bowl of cereal with milk that didn't taste a bit odd and some marmite on toast we had become the most enthusiastic sightseers in Auckland.
Whilst we were generally lucky with the weather these ominous looking clouds blew in whilst we were still up the tower. However the sun shining through gaps in the clouds created these attractive patterns on the water and fortunately it didn't get round to raining until later in the day.

After viewing the city from above we decided to go and look at some of the places we had seen from below. Auckland's enormous harbour is home to thousands of yachts and we spent a couple of hours walking and looking at the boats deciding which ones we would like to buy if (when) we have the money.
After seven months of travelling in countries where the people think that vegetarians can eat fish, chicken and proabably meat as well it was a treat to go to a restaurant without having to worry. Before visiting Auckland Museum we treated ourselves to our favourite Wagamama's katsu curry, yum!
Auckland Museum is a fascinating history of New Zealand as a whole and is located right in the middle of a lovely park. After spending a few hours in the museum we took a leisurely stroll through the park back to the city.
