THE CITY OF WELLINGTON (12/08/09)
Wellington is neither a pretty nor particularly inspiring city. We are sure that many people love the city but unfortunately we were not overly impressed, although considering our brief visit this maybe a little unfair. It does, however, have an excellent museum which has a wide variety of displays including traditional Maori art.
The wood carvings form an important part of Maori culture and are very ornate and sometimes huge. They also, as here, often use carved shells as the eyes of their carvings.
