Day 74 - Travelling Montezuma to Nicoya

TRAVELLING MONTEZUMA TO NICOYA (16/03/09)

We have put this map (ignore the note about hyperlinks the picture is pinched from another website) on to give you an idea of the rather ridiculous journey we had to take from Montzuma ( bottom right) to Nicoya (middle left). So we caught a bus at 5.15am ( it was meant to leave at 5.30, luckily we were early) from Montezuma 2 hours north east to Paquera. We needed to get another bus from Naranjo about 20km NNW of Paquera but there is no public transport between the two villages. The only solution was to get the (very inexpensive) ferry 2 hours to Puntarenas, wait an hour and then get the other ferry to Naranjo (another 2 hours). So what would have been no longer than 1 hour on a bus actually took about 5 hours. We then caught another bus about 3 hours to Nicoya and stopped the night, not having the energy to carry on to our final destination of Nosara (middle of the West coast).

We stayed at this hotel in Nicoya mainly because of the name! Unfortunately it didn´t turn out to be ANYTHING like Stables Cottage: It was clean, there was hot water, no ants, the sheets were spotless and it was really quiet due to the fact that it wasn´t right next to a busy main road.
