Day 142 - Galapagos Islands

GALAPAGOS ISLANDS DAY 5 - SAN CRISTOBAL ISLAND (23/05/09)

Early in the morning we went out in the panga boat through this turquoise sea filled lava tube.

Brown Pelicans are incredibly clumsy when they land, you can´t help but look when you hear the enormous splash.

After snorkeling we travelled past this enormous rocky island called the Sleeping Lion due to its shape from another angle.

Liz caught Adam in a stupid pose enjoying the sea breeze.

Once we had anchored at Puerto Baquerizomoreno on San Cristobal island we took a boat to shore. On the way we saw many sea lions basking in the sun on the fishermens boats.

On the towns small stretch of sandy beach there were many seal lions including this baby one which Adam fell in love with.

How could you not?

The sea lions constantly make loud barking noises, we caught this one mid conversation.

We had never realised before how much character sea lions have. They are incredibly playful and all have individual expressions. This one had been lying on one side in the sand whilst still wet.

Just "lion" around!

We watched them for many hours playing in the sea. This mother and pup clearly loved each others company.

In the afternoon we visited an interesting ethnographic museum before climbing to the highest point on San Cristobal. For the first time there was very little wildlife but there was some interesting plants such as this fruiting cactus.

There were also outstanding views of the surrounding ocean.

At dusk Liz once more convinced Madrid the panga driver to risk his life and let her drive the boat around the bay.

WOW, how lucky are you two? Travelling the world and seeing all those amazing animals, they look really friendly or is it they can relate to you two?

Keep taking the pictures as you are making me really jealous of the fun you two look as if you are having.
